“Puppy Kinder” … a new direction ...
“Puppy Kinder“ is one of the most important experiences you can provide for you and your puppy.
During the early weeks of having your puppy at home, you’ll notice different behaviours! Some of them might seem funny, but some are just plain annoying and can take the joy out of having the new member of your family in your home!
All dogs have what we call a “critical period” of development! This starts from 3 weeks of age and extends to either 14 or 16 weeks depending on the breed type. Because it is critical, we must teach them as many good experiences as possible within that period. Everything that happens during that time “STAYS WITH THEM FOR LIFE”. The puppies who don’t receive “socialisation” during this period, can have issues later on.
Because most people collect their puppies at 8 weeks (the optimum time!!!), as owners you have from …
8 weeks to 14 weeks for the smaller breeds
8 weeks to 16 weeks for the larger breeds
We can then introduce them to as many different scenarios as possible to ensure consolidation of good experiences.
As this early stage is so vitally important, Pawsability has taken a new direction. Because most vets advise not to take your puppy out until their final vaccination, the opportunity to introduce important socialisation (the “critical period”) is effectively lost.
What we offer is quite unique, and different to what has been previously available. We originally held a structured 4 week course which a lot of people found difficult to commit to … we all have very busy lives and time is precious!
Our revised service now provides a two (2) hour consultation in your home to discuss any problems you might be experiencing having a new puppy at home. We also show you all the basic commands, discuss leadership roles and how to successfully communicate with your new addition. Our price for this one-on-one consultation is $220.00.
The next step is what makes us quite unique. In our own home, we have other dogs that stay with us, vaccinated and healthy, fully compliant with our stringent requirements. No dog is permitted in our home without proof of vaccination.
Further to the original two (2) hour consultation, it is our suggestion that one (1) day in each of four (4) consecutive weeks in our home, your puppy can be with us for invaluable and supervised, safe socialisation with other dogs. This is so important in encouraging your puppy to be confident for day-to-day life around different breeds.
Once your puppy has received its final vaccination shots, we then take them to our training facility where we are able to introduce them to such things as different surface types and objects possibly encountered from day-to-day … different sounds as experienced from time-to-time as well.
It is completely up to you as to how long you continue bringing your puppy along for these experiences. Four weeks is the period of time we would usually recommend, thus ensuring positive reinforcement of the important learning they have undertaken to that time. However, we do have a number of clients who continue sending their puppy along for the one day a week, where learning is consolidated whilst having fun with qualified Dog Trainers!
Our one day sessions are available on a Monday, and are held at any suitable time for you between 7.00am – 7.00pm for drop off/pickup.
Most importantly, you will be giving yourself and your puppy the very best start in your relationship together. It’s all about producing "bomb-proof" dogs and building that unique connection that will last a lifetime. We look forward to meeting you all!
From “Beginners” to “Advanced”, our “Group Classes” are small and intimate (no more than 12 per class).
With this format we can give you the attention you need, so you can see results quickly. We can take your dog through to the level of training you desire, providing you follow our teaching philosophies.
While attendance at “Puppy Kinder” is desirable, a dog at any age can be taught obedience. In fact, they LOVE it! Obedience classes give you the opportunity to really communicate with your dog for the first time. You’ll literally see the “light bulb of learning” switch on!
“Group Classes” also incorporate many different types of socialisation and fun … other dogs, strange people, noises, smells, sounds, including thunder/fireworks, anything we can think of … sometimes it’s the most simple of things that can elicit a reaction from your dog!
We also incorporate “Agility for Fun” into all ”Group Classes” as a tool for leadership and bonding with your puppy/dog.
“Trick Training” is another of the fun parts of training that we undertake. It is available for those dogs and owners who have achieved a high standard of obedience, and we see this activity yet again completing the bond we desire with our dogs.
A Pawsability Dog Training ”Individual Consultation” is a prerequisite, and MUST be booked and undertaken prior to commencing our “Group Classes”.
Individual Consultations & Evaluations
Pawsability Dog Training is committed to providing our clients the very best of service.
We do this by assessing you and your dogs’ needs in an “Individual Consultation”.
We believe in a personal approach where we can explain many techniques in a relaxed environment ... your home.
This also gives you an opportunity to get to know us. We explain all facets of training, dog behaviour, canine communication, and how to switch on the “light bulb of learning”!
We do have a requirement in place, whereby all dogs must have an “Individual Consultation” prior to attending “Group Classes”.
